LAST HOPE'S FREE SPAY/NEUTER DAY
SUNDAY, MARCH 1st, 2009
Levittown, NY

93 cats and kittens were spayed and neutered!

WE DID IT!! 93 CATS ARE NO LONGER BREEDING!

THANK YOU TO ALL PARTICIPATING VETERINARIANS AND VET TECHS AS WELL AS ALL THE STUDENTS FROM THE VET TECH PROGRAM AT SUFFOLK COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

THIS YEAR VETERINARIANS INCLUDED: Dr. Gay Senk, Dr. Diane Levitan, who arranged for the use of Dr. Leon's hospital, Dr. Kevin Cummins, Dr. Ronald Pettinati, Dr. David Foster, Dr. Frank Valenzisi and Dr. Janet Juliano.

Special thanks to Diane Pionegro for her help in organizing the volunteers and clinic.

Thank you to our great LAST HOPE volunteers who spent the day doing every thing from registration to cat handling to final cleanup.

FINALLY, WE EXTEND OUR MOST SINCERE THANK YOU TO Dr. Dennis Leon, his mother, Doreen, and staff for offering us the use of the Levittown Animal Hospital for our Spring FERAL CAT SPAY-NEUTER DAY.

On a very sad note, we learned that one of our vet tech volunteers, Marian Krauss, who has assisted at three other LAST HOPE feral cat spay-neuter days, passed away suddenly on March 2, 2009. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and friends. We will not forget her help and support of our work.

See you next time....

Since 1987, LAST HOPE has been active in attempting to develop proactive methods to deal with the feral cat problem on Long Island. We held our first feral cat trapping workshop in the Levittown Public Library in 1995 and have held numerous workshops since that date in attempt to educate the public about feral cats and the methods available to contain their procreation. In 2003, we developed the FIX-A-FERAL Program to make it financially feasible for the public to spay and neuter the feral cats that they are feeding.

To date, we estimate that well over 6,000 feral cats on Long Island have been spayed and neutered through this program.
