Dear Last Hope, We adopted Teddy Bear a year ago, August from Last Hope's PetSmart in Huntington. He made eye contact with me as I walked across the room to see him. He is as big as a raccoon - and looks like one too. He's sweet and funny, gentle and very playful. My 2 ten year old orange brother cats, Peaches and Dragon, took him in paw and made him their own. (I'm so proud of them!) Our standard poodle, Peppermint, thought she got him for her birthday; she adores him. And our Pomeranian, Sugar, after letting know who's boss, lets him rub past her and pet her chin with his fluffy boa tail. He took the spot of wonderful Blueberry, who had gone to heaven (a smooth gray cat) and is a warm and loving creature to my son, husband, and myself. He is a true success story. Thank you for the good work you all do! Warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas.

Felix's Story
I already had one adult, female housecat named Brandy, who I rescued from the streets of Boston in 1997. When Brandy was nine years old, I moved to Long Island to take a job offer that was wonderful, but that would require me to travel. I knew that simply hiring a pet sitter for my “needy” girl Brandy would not be enough. She requires a lot of attention (I call her my shadow) and if I was to be gone for a week or more, that would not go over very well with her. That being said, I decided to adopt another cat. I would have been happy getting another adult cat, but because Brandy was already 9 years old, I knew I had to get a kitten for her to not only accept, but to love him. I also knew that it had to be a very outgoing kitten, one who would not be intimidated by the smacks and hisses that it was sure to get when first introduced to big sis. I went to four animal shelters, and although all of the kittens were cute, I just couldn’t find the one that I knew would be right for Brandy. Then I went into PetSmart in Huntington Station to get some supplies, and I saw the wall of cats and kittens that were up for adoption. Someone brought me around to the back to see the kittens that were available. As they were taking out the first couple of kittens, I saw this black leg with a white paw sticking out from between the bars, way down at the end of the row. It was waving up and down, as if to say, “Down here, look at me!” I asked them if I could see that particular kitten and as soon as Felix and I were introduced, I knew he was the one. I filled out the paperwork, and before I knew it, he was delivered to my home. I was advised to keep him quarantined for two weeks, but Brandy, the little sneak, figured out a way to get in to see him almost immediately. For Felix, it was love at first sight. For Brandy, well…she had to put on the, “I’m the boss” show for a little while, but even for her, it was love at least on the first night. I have had Felix for two and a half years now and the three of us couldn’t be happier. Now when I travel, I know that they are being cared for by the pet sitter, and are being loved by each other. Brandy and I both thank you for bringing Felix into
out lives. I have attached some pictures for your enjoyment. |
