Dixie formerly Veronica

Hi Lettie,

Everything is GREAT!!! Dixie is so affectionate and loves to snuggle with everyone and anyone. She has to say hello to EVERYONE that passes by.

Many people walk to the train in the morning and yesterday while on our am walk she greeted at least 8 dog friendly people. Of course they all commented on how cute she is.....me being the proud mama agreed wholeheartedly.

We just love her. She is so amazing and soooo smart. She responds to her name and is sitting on command too! My plan is to take a video and put it up on YouTube.

She slaps that tail of hers constantly. She curls up on my bed or anywhere and when we enter and just say, " Hello Dixie girl", that tail starts with its rapid ....thump, thump, thump.

We are all so in love with her and she is careful to return that love to all by hopping from bed to bed and couch to chair so everyone gets a good snuggle. She's very thoughtful that way.

It's awesome, as is she, AND all of you for what you do to bring happiness to all of us.

Rob, Anne (Proud Mama), Julianne, Caroline and of course, Dixie

Shea and Baily

We are lucky enough to have Shea and Baily as a part of our family.

Shea
formally known as Brandy was abandoned by her owners about a year ago. The beautiful 2 year old St. Bernard was at a shelter terrified of everything. Last Hope came to the rescue and brought her to their facility in Lindenhurst. With a horrible ear infection and under weight she cowarded in the back of her cage. We could see beyond the fear that their was a great soul. We took Shae home last December. She was so scared, would not get in the car, would not go in the house without being picked up, she was terrified beyond belief. Slowly she has forgotten all the bad times she had before Last Hope rescued her. She loves all people, loves other dogs, loves to go in the back yard and play fetch. She is wonderful and has become a blessing to our family.

The other dog in our family is Baily formerly known as Harriet. Two and half years ago she was diagnosed with cancer in her mammary glands. Her owners who did love her could not afford to help her anymore so left Baily at the shelter in Babylon. Last Hope once again came to the rescue. She had half of the glands and tumors removed and she began to recover. When we saw her and looked into her eyes you could see the love she wanted to give. We took her home two years ago. She has had all her glands removed now and is doing great so good in fact that this thirteen year old lady is often mistaken for a puppy at the dog park because of her playfulness. She is so happy to just be alive. She loves to go for walks or to the dog park and is the most obedient dog we have ever had, she loves to please and give her love. Our family would no have been complete without the addition of these two wonderful souls. We know how lucky we are. We cherish their hearts and they give us more love than you could ever imagine.

Babette

When I first met Babette, she was this tiny, 8 lb, scared ball of fur who backed up in the cage and went to bite me when I tried to get her out of the cage at Last Hope. Her teeth were rotten and her fur was shaved as she had been found with her fur so matted that it had to be shaved off. I decided to take this forlorn dog and foster her until after her teeth surgery. All of her teeth were being removed because she was was neglected and her mouth was infected. I brought her home planning on keeping her temporarily but little did I know that she would adopt me and worm her way into my heart. The last thing I needed was another dog as I already had 3 dogs, 2 cats and 1 bunny. Well, what can I say, once her mouth surgery was done and I picked her up with that little tongue hanging out of her mouth (due to no teeth), she was mine.

Babette follows me everywhere. She cannot climb up and down the stairs so I carried her up at night and down in the morning. At first she tried to be the boss and went after every one of my animals but after a few weeks she adapted and currently only chases the cats who are just her size. I soon discovered that this little fireball loves car rides. Whenever she sees me with my pocketbook and keys, she practically does somersaults waiting to go out and into the car. She loves putting her tiny face out the window and letting the wind blow threw her hair while growling at everyone as we pass by. I take her with me whenever possible as she is part of the family. Everyone knows that where I go, Babette goes. She loves sitting on my lap while looking out the window. I love the fact that I can carry her easily and while visiting my friends and family, she sits on my lap the entire time. How could something that is so tiny, provide such love...I don't know, but my life has changed since Babette came into my life.

Fella

Hi Caroline - just want to thank you again for this handsome guy. He is a total love and non-aggressive with Duchess. She was a little better this morning, so I think within a week she'll be over it. This morning he was on the top shelf of the cat condo and I went over to say goodbye and he wriggled his way over to the edge so that he could rub his face on my forehead. I can't believe how lucky I am to have gotten him. You did a great job with him and he never has to worry again about someone abusing him. Thanks again and I'll keep in touch.

Kreacher (formerly Nero)

Hi,

I figured I would let you know how Dobby (formerly Canute) and Kreacher (formerly Nero who I adopted) are doing. They are fantastic! Kreacher has found his voice and will squeak at me if i take out his dinner or treats. It's adorable.

They play together as if they were raised together. I couldn't have found a better match for Dobby. Both are healthy, happy, and loved. Attached are some pictures if you want to put them under the happy ending section of the website.

Garfield

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that Garfield was real great on the drive down to Florida. We brought him to the vet before we left just in case we needed to tranquilize him we got the pills from the vet. It turned out that he slept the whole trip and didn't need to be tranquilized which surprised us both.

He has adjusted very well here and we also took all 4 cats to the vet here and got them chipped for there own safety as well as ours.

As you can see he is very stressed out in his new surroundings and on his new tree.

Mylie

Dear Cindy and Carl,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, I have just been having such a grrrrrrreat time here at Antonia's. She let me out to the other rooms the first day because I was just so so eager to explore the rest of my home. And let me tell you, I am the king of the castle now :o)

Antonia goes to school about three days a week, and yes I miss her, but I sit right in front of the door when she comes home, and she carries me all around. (yeah she spoils me big time). Anyway, I do need the time to myself too you know. I mean some downtime for "the man". So when she is gone I watch the sports channel, or just lay around all day. My favorite spot is on the sofa, where she put my favorite blanki. Well it used to be her fleece , but now I took possession of it, and well, it's all mine. Sometimes she leaves the door open to go upstairs in the house so I have more room to roam and run around. My landlord upstairs LOVES me too. Well, what can I say, I know I am handsome.

So, my favorite things to do is to lay in her lap when she studies. I also love to play with her pens when she needs them, or lay across her school stuff when she actually needs to read it. She moves me, and well, I go right back, it's fun.
I love to drink out of a glass like a real human being, so Antonia has a class on her desk for me to drink from.

What else, oh, I loooooove to attack her feet. Especially when she tries to sleep past 6 am on the weekends. 'Cause I am up at that time and want ATTENTION. I love her red toe nails. In fact, I love them so much, that I bite them all the time.

All in all, I love it here. Thank you for making me such a social and loving kitten, because Antonia loves me that way :o) On rainy days we cuddle up in bed and I purr and purr and purr.

O.k. I have to go now. I hope all is well.

Yours,
Miley

Chloe (formerly Violet)

One of the best decisions I have ever made was to volunteer for Last Hope.

When I started it was clear to me then how hard it was going to be. To have to leave all the sweet faces hiding behind the doors of their cages each night.

One night I couldn't bare to do that for this one adorable Pit-bull mix Violet (now Chloe). I asked to foster her for the night, I think I was more excited then she was. I believe she was at my home for less then an hour before I made the call asking “Can I come in tomorrow to fill out adoption papers for Violet?"

It didn't take long before the 5 other members of my family, including my other dog feel in love with her just the same. She is the sweetest burst of energy, and as long as she can share your pillow she’s happy! All I think when I watch her with my family and other dog is if I didn't give her the CHANCE to be here, I would never know how loving she is or how much joy she would bring to me and all that are around her.

There are too many potential family members out there that just need a CHANCE! Violet (now Chloe) agrees "Thanks for the new warm bed and puppy friend"

Sylvia

Hi Bruna,

Sorry it has taken so long, but here are just a few of the many photos I've taken.

"Lady" Sylvie has been making herself at home. She has chosen "her" favorite couch and if someone's already in it, she's happy enough to just lay by our feet. She has even decided that it's OK to come and sit on my lap to be pet without ANY coaxing. She's still a little skittish when someone walks in her direction when she's on the floor, but she is getting much better. I think in time she'll realize that we mean her no harm and that we're just here to care for her and love her.

I hope you enjoy the photos. Thanks.

Alaska

Hi Last Hope Friends!

I wanted to let everyone know that it’s been a whole year in my new home!! Yup, March 1st is my 1st Anniversary with my folks!! It has been the best year of my life. They turned me into a social butterfly, they take me to my friend Sadie’s house (Rotti Mix), and Shasta and Patch’s house (Daschunds) and we run around like crazy. I also went to Pette the Puggle’s house and went in his pool; I floated around on a float of course, too bad my dad didn’t have grapes to feed me LOL!!

My proud mom attached some pictures so you can see how much fun I have. My favorite picture is me on the beach with sand all over my nose. I absolutely loved the beach, I trotted in the water, sat in the sand but best of all I tried to dig to China but I just couldn’t get there.

And of course the ole’ “Dog by the Christmas Tree Shot”…. But I have to say Christmas was great! I got my own stocking with treats and a squeaky chicken toy that looks like Elvis.

I am so thankful and very happy I have my family now!! I guard my home like a warrior!! All visitors have to pass through me (all 23lbs of me) before stepping over the threshold!!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot – my mom started to volunteer at the Last Hope Dog Center!! My folks hope one day to come across the perfect sibling for me from Last Hope.

Thanks again Last Hope for placing me in my loving home!!

Denver

Hi my name is Denver. I was one of the lucky ones. I was adopted June, 06 and as you can see my mommy feeds me well. I am a big boy now ( 12lbs.) and have grown into those big ears. I have an older sister that was also adopted but she is a squirt only 7 lbs. so I am the King. I am very happy now.

Clover

Hi Lettie - We are so blessed to have Louie (our Katrina boy), Buster (our basset rescue boy) and now Clo!!! She has a wonderful personality, much calmer than our high-testosterone boys!! She loves her fluffy bed and enjoys running in our yard, of course watching while the two "crazies" bark at everyone/anything that passes by!! She is affectionate and becoming very social-learning more each day about how our house operates-She is as sweet as sugar and gives kisses freely!!! We love her more everyday.
